point-shoot-exposed!!!! (Singapore 2012 Trip Day 2)

MERLION :D

It's our second day in SG and have the whole day to explore. We woke up early to take a bath early...I dont want to share bathroom with people I dont know. One of the downside of a backpacker type of hostel is communal bathrooms. Plus I hate it when the floor is already wet, so I have to take a bath before others! (OC, I know!)

We have spare time as we were to meet Tots near the temple around 10am so we decided to leave early and walk around. Here are the things we saw.

love how they maintained these cool buildings!

Pagoda Street, get it? haha
felt like I was in Europe not Asia
Mabuhay pose.... love the building behind me
so colorful
Buddhist temple

We were to meet Tots at the Buddhist temple... I just had to step back and admire the beauty!

The inside is just as magnificent!

front of the temple... (me saying a prayer)

they say holding these knobs will bring good luck :)

where's wally moment hee hee hee

Off we went to explore Sentosa. :D

We rode the train...

And when I arrived at Sentosa I became a kid again... these are the proofs:

photobombed by a fellow tourists

I always dream of kissing a seahorse
I have a sneaky suspicion that I didn't camouflage!

I heart you series...

flowers are love
I heart you

I almost forgot I was with friends... not!

when I realized I love bridges
photobombed again by the man in yellow tsk tsk

Of course we have to take group shots. Good thing there was a hunky guy (without a shirt on! haha) who was more than willing to take our pics. Too bad he was with his equally fab girlfriend (in two-piece bikini).

loveeeet!

Mga babae sa breakwater ang peg! haha

man-made beach

yes, we love our pics taken! whatevs!

love vintage cars

kung fu pose

We then went to Universal Studios, Hersheys Store...ate an uber late  lunch at Malaysian food street, bought Garret popcorn (nagmamadali lang? hahaha)

my concept of chocolate heaven

I ate the famous Chicken Rice twice that day.. and sticky rice is really sticky! haha

FOOD:
my first chicken rice... roasted chicken--classic. yum!
my second chicken rice--steamed version (I think!) with sticky rice
sticky rice balls
dimsum

Have I tired you of my face poking everywhere, yet? But wait...theres more! haha

We were all tired at the end of the day that we ate dinner at nearby Hakaw (?) not really sure what its called.

We ate a carrot cake... that doesnt have any carrot in it and nor is it a cake! But tastes yummy!

carrot cake
We were all tuckered out and decided to call it a night earlier than planned. But before we hit the sack we spent a good hour just talking about stuffs in our lives over coffee.

peace out!

point-shoot-exposed!!! (Singapore 2012 Trip Day1)

I know, I know this is a SUPER KADUPER late post...like nine months late. If this is pregnancy I would have given birth by now! ha!

But as always, I blame heavy workload and ultra active social life (read: just plain old lazy!) and I just had to have this long weekend/holiday to realize that I haven't posted my Singapore travel early this year (like first week of February 2012).

It was a much-anticipated out of country trip with my happy friends and a reunion of with Tots (who is based in Singapore).

where to go?!?

FIRST AGENDA: ACCOMMODATION

We were all travelling with a pre-set budget and Tots found us a cute backpacker place right in the heart of Chinatown and very much near to the train stations and pubs.

place for backpacks

We stayed at Beary Best Hostel (one of the three BEARY HOSTELS in Singapore). Its safe, affordable and very...uhmm, should I say, BEARY BEST indeed! The staff were very nice and very friendly. Its way different from the hotels that I were used to. It gave an opportunity for us travellers to meet new people. (Note: I was told that there were 2 or 3 cute guys in our room but I never got the chance to see them, they were out most of the night and we were out most of the day! too bad! haha)

I love the concept of a backpacker's place. It house a lot of very cool and very diverse people... We met some Koreans, Indonesians, Taiwanese, Malaysians and even fellow Filipinos    in the shared breakfast nook. I was told that it was a holiday in Malaysia (I think) during that weekend that's why a lot of tourists were there. We even met two honeymooner couples!

The place was cozy, very alive---colorful, and they have unlimited coffee and wifi (what more could I ask for?)

I think this is a mandatory piece of furniture...just saying
I LOVE their lamp/chandelier
common living room
where we lounge after hours of serious SG walking

breakfast nook
must be considerate of fellow backpacker
my bed for the whole weekend

SECOND AGENDA: EXPLORATION

No need for a lot of words... I was awestruck by how amazing the country is and how wonderful and diverse the people are! I am in love with the city. Here are the places we visited on our first day.

off we go exploring with our very own tour guide
where every tourists go

A sight for sore eyes!

love the architecture

lovely city indeed!
breathtaking

THIRD and LAST AGENDA: EAT

We were all exhausted and since its our first night there, we decided to eat in a restaurant named: Thai Express. I hardly had pictures as we all were just plain H.U.N.G.R.Y!

menu
Chicken Curry with Chips something
Pad Thai
good old Fried Chicken
when my mom saw this, she told me... YOU WENT TO SG TO DRINK BUCO JUICE???? there are a lot of them here!

SNIPPETS OF WHAT WE DID ON OUR FIRST DAY!
1. take pictures of my HAPPY friends
2. Pose with some street statues
3. Ask random tourist to take our picture
4. Find a cool lighting fixture and pose beside it
5. Have a standard tourist shot taken
6. Have a wacky picture taken with a dragon
three happy campers

good times with happy friends.

random thought #4: now and then

I wish I could give my childhood to today's children. Back in the day, children were uber creative. We could play Tumbang Preso using rubber slippers and used cans; Piko and Step No/Step Yes using flat stones/rocks; Chinese Garters with rubber bands; Luksong Tinik/Luksong Baka with our bodies; Syato with old sticks; and Agawan Base with using just about any walls. We can make up games with house spiders, see different formations in the clouds, role-play with other kids. Teks was a game. Child's creativity and camaraderie were honed and developed.

Before, the price of happiness is free...all you need is little imagination.

Now children are stuck at home with laptops and iPads watching videos, playing games...no more interaction with REAL people. :(

Now, kids happiness is so expensive!

just saying...

random thought #3: possibility

Sometimes even if there is no tangible, concrete thing yet,
The thought...
The possibility of things to come,
And of the events that may or will happen,
Is enough for someone to hope...
To cling to that promise of possibility
Of that slightly blurry potentially future event..

Enough to be happy,
Enough to experience fleeting joy,
Enough to have faith.

Blessed be!

waiting?

Alone again, naturally.

The first time I heard of this is from my friend Tots.

Spending alonetime has been second-nature to me now... Hahahaha

I'm such a sucker for romantic ambiance! Tsk tsk

growing pains

Darnit, these days I feel more and more old! No, this is not a whine of a person nearing her birthday (my birthday is months and months away) but a hard reality kick in the butt.

Back in the day I can function with little sleep now, no more.

When I was in lawschool, I'd sleep around 8-9pm and wake up around 12am to study. I find that there are little distractions (tv, internet, people) in the wee hours of the morning and so thats the time I do my "serious" studying. Then by 5am I'll take a nap, wake up at 6 or 7 am then off to school. There was even a time in college when I was (and yes I was counting!) 36 hours. I think thats when we're doing our thesis! But now, I cannot do that anymore.

Having been sleep deprive for last decade or so has finally takeb its toll on me!

Just this morning, I slept at past 12am. It wasnt a deep sleep even, then by 2am I woke up with a suddern urge to phrase a certain document I was working on and then couldnt go back to sleep. It was already 3:30am when I got to nap then alam went off at 4:30am. I snoozed it and was up by 5am.

Then now the result of little/lack of sleep (plus stress, which is an occupational hazard), I am red all over. Literally!

I'm having a bad case of skin asthma!

I guess all thr stress, lack of sleep over fatigue and other abuse I did to my poor body is finally catching up on me.

Darn!

I have skin asthma and other ultr sensitive skin conditions (that my friend even said that I should live in a bubble!). When stressed, sleep deprived and even the littlest allergens could trigger it bad. Worse case scenario aggravate what I already have :(

Haaaaay I am really not what I used to. I am really getting older and my body weaker. :(

Meanwhile, all these "OLD" talks made me wonder what I look like when I get older (and hopefully more wiser! Hehe) I tinker the apple app store and saw the Oldify app...

Here's what I will probably look like 40 years from now hahaha

I look sad.... I dont like the older me! hahahaha

Sad realization,

random thought #1

How can I change what is in my nature? If its natural for me to care, how can I stop myself not to.

The thing is I am known to be kind. No bragging included just being truthful. But the downside is, kindness is often abused.

MY being "kind" often leads to my own problems. I am often taken advantage of.

How can I say no without sounding too self-centered?

If I say no, people would readily assume that I am being selfish... But I'm not... But I, too, have my own set of things to do... and other priorities.

I was called in a meeting and had no idea what to do...
